The Diamond district starts above 580 around the Fruitvale exit and continues south past Lincoln. It includes Diamond Park and goes up the hill to Oakmore and Lincoln Heights. Like Glenview to the north this neighborhood has a lot of cute bungalow style homes as well as some tutor and Mediterranean architecture. As you continue south down Macarthur Avenue the Laurel neighborhood begins and continues south to High Street. At 35th Avenue you cross through the arch above the street with the Laurel sign. You continue through a business district with restaurants, shops, a coffee house, and video rental stores. The Laurel goes up the hill part way between Macarthur and highway 13 to where Redwood Heights begins, just above Harborview.

With Farmer Joes opening up a new large store at Fruitvale as well as their previous store at 35th there is plenty of opportunity to buy organic produce. There is also a health food store called the Food Mill on Macarthur at Maple. Mills College is not far away. These neighborhoods are very diverse ethnically, culturally, and socially. You can often listen to jazz music being played at World Ground coffee shop. This is a great first time home buyer neighborhood. You see people walking with smaller children in strollers. This is a great place to experience a mix of people living together and enjoying diversity.
