El Cerrito, its slogan, "A Nice Place to Live", is exactly that. Driving down San Pablo Avenue doesn't really give you an idea of what El Cerrito is all about. A very diverse and friendly community, this is one of those places where people don't leave, they stay and grow old here. The elementary schools are pretty good and improving. There is a large number of private schools. El Cerrito is a neighborhood that really didn't start booming until World War II, therefore its housing stock is more 1940's 50's and 60's contemporary. With it's access to public transportation supporting 2 BART stops, El Cerrito has become a desirable place to live.
