Montclair is located in the of Oakland hills and has a Tahoe like feeling to it. Montclair village has many businesses, shops, and restaurants. People like this area for it's lush wooded appearance, the elementary schools, and the size of many of it's homes. Montclair is a mix of a smaller number older homes (many built as cabins originally) built in the 30's and 40's, a larger number of houses built in the 50's - 2000's. For those of you who are set on buying a victorian or craftsman era home this is probably not the neighborhood for you. There is a much large number of more contemporary homes in the hills. There are often no sidewalks on the streets but there are many hiking trails and parks. If you like trees, views, and nature, you will probably love Montclair.
