Trestle Glen History

Trestle Glen is a very charming neighborhood nestled in a valley with tree lined streets and manicured yards. Named for the railroad trestle that used to run through the area, it is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Oakland with grand older homes built at the turn of the century. As you continue up the hill of mature tree lined streets toward Piedmont you enter Crocker Highlands, another very sought after neighborhood with grand older homes that are generally well maintained and sell in the million dollar price range. Lower down the hill and toward Lakeshore the homes become less expensive and are a mix of large estates and more modest tutors.

There are many amenities to these neighborhoods that are worth mentioning. The business district along Lakeshore and Grand Lake Avenue offers shops, restaurants, the historic Grand Lake Movie Theatre, a new Trader Joes, coffee houses galore, and an abundance of night life. At the tip of where Grand and Lakeshore nearly meet, next to 580, is a park where a large famers market takes place on Saturday. From there is Lake Merritt, a favorite place to run and exercise or just take a stroll on a weekend day. There are yoga studios, Gold's Gym, and pretty much everything a person wants to do close at hand. The neighborhood is ethnically mixed and multicultural.
